A Guide to EFT Therapy

Psychologists and psychiatrists who practice a psychological therapy method called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) believe that negative emotions like those listed above are caused by disturbances in a body's energy field.

EFT is considered a meridian therapy. Meridian therapy focuses on twelve channels within the body through which bio-energy (biological energy that creates electricity) flows. These channels run through your body and are connected to six of your ten major organs. In other words, they feel that any bad energy a person has flowing through these channels will have a negative effect on that person's heart, kidneys, liver, gall bladder, spleen, etc.

In much the same way that acupuncturists use needles to tap into these channels and release the bad energy, EFT practitioners apply pressure point therapy using their hands rather than needles. They choose the correct point for the particular channel they are trying to clear and apply pressure with the some part of the hand. These points are called, "chakras."

The exact method to applying pressure and exact placement of the hand will differ depending on the chakra you are trying to clear. The action of pressing these points is called, "tapping." When tapping, there are certain phrases you are asked to say that directly correspond to the area that you are tapping. For instance, if you are tapping an area that affects your self-confidence, you may be asked to state, "I deeply and completely accept myself" while tapping the correct chakra. There are many tutorials and youtube videos online that will allow you to become your own practitioner of EFT. Devoted followers of this form of therapy suggest performing it daily and combining it with traditional methods of therapy, such as counseling sessions. They feel that this combination of methods will result in faster, more successful healing for the patient.

Practitioners of EFT tout its miracle-like results on conditions such as MS, vision problems, emotional instability, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and more. These practitioners think that by releasing the bad energy flowing through the channels of your body, a patient will let go of negativity and negative behavior patterns. Practitioners also believe this will cure any physical manifestations of negativity.
