Our 4-legged children are very special to us and it's amazing to what lengths people will go to satisfy their needs. Grooming, vets and most important good, healthy tasty food for the little ones. Fussy Puppies are our specialty. I've been baking dog treats for 10 years with great success. I'm now ready to share some recipes for the all natural dog treats that have been used by many dog owners and pet professionals.
The recipes that I have are for all natural treats with emphasis on human grade ingredients. I've had dogs that had allergies and developed these to suit their needs. The first is a savory spice cookie that has them drooling while the treats are cooking in the oven. They smell like your favorite spice cookie recipe. I use a convection oven but this is not necessary. All instructions are for standard home ovens It just dries them out better to give them a longer shelf life. Using a regular oven and not going through the drying process is fine for home use and I only suggest keeping them in a container in the refrigerator for longer life.
Hound House Cookies
½ cup honey
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
1/3 cup molasses
1 egg
2 ¼ cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 tsp. Ginger
½ tsp. Ground cloves
1 tsp. Cinnamon
½ cup peanuts halved or chopped. I chop
preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Mix all wet ingredients together.
In a separate bowl combine all dry ingredients
Combine with wet mixture.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet. Flatten with your hand and sprinkle with peanuts.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes and cool on a rack before serving.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Bowser Brownies
½ cup vegetable shortening
2 Tbsp. Honey
4 eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
¼ cup carob powder
1 cup all purpose flour
½ tsp baking powder
Carob powder can be found in health food stores or on the net at several different sites. Usually they have sweetened or unsweetened available. Get the unsweetened.
In a large bowl cream shortening and honey together until fully mixed. Add eggs one at a time to mix and mix thoroughly. Add all other ingredients and beat well.
Bake in a 9x13in. Pan at 350 degrees for 24-30 minutes. Cool thoroughly and cut into squares for your pooch. Watch your fingers.
Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
