How to Obtain an Ohio Motorcycle License
Applicants for an Ohio motorcycle license first take a test to get a permit and can then attend an Ohio motorcycle course. After passing a motorcycle driving test, an applicant can then get a full Ohio motorcycle license.
Download the necessary booklets (these can be viewed online) for the written Ohio motorcycle test. You need two study guides. The Ohio Motorcycle Operator Manual can be found online at publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/mop0001.pdf. The Ohio Department of Public Safety "Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws" can also be found online at publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/hsy7607.pdf.
Study both of these manuals so you can pass the written motorcycle test. If you pass this test, you can get an Illinois motorcycle permit. This learner's permit is required to participate in the Motorcycle Ohio motorcycle training course.
Go to an exam station to take your written test. You can find Ohio county driver test centers at statepatrol.ohio.gov/counties.stm.
Use the "Branch Office Locations" page at bmv.ohio.gov/county_lst.stm to find an Ohio Department of Public Safety Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) Deputy Registrar office. This is where you will get your Ohio motorcycle permit, which gives you two years to train for and get a license endorsement.
Schedule and attend a Motorcycle Ohio training course. You can enroll online at the Motorcycle Ohio site at dps.state.oh.us/MOScheduling/. You must attend this Ohio motorcycle class if you are 16 or 17. Otherwise, you should still attend the course because it gives you a waiver of the Ohio motorcycle skills test.
If you have to take the skills test, schedule it at the same driver exam station that you visited to take the written motorcycle test.
After you have completed all Ohio motorcycle license requirements (tests and course), then go back to an Ohio BMV Deputy Registrar office to get your license.
