Why You Should Use Potty Training Pants
How to know when your child is ready for potty training and why potty training pants are a good option.
Here are some things to look for you in your child:
Now you need to decide if you want to use pull-ups or potty training pants. With potty training pants, you can wash them and use them again. They are basically a thicker version of underwear, and they also allow you child to feel the wetness more than regular pull-ups. This, in my opinion, helps your child potty train faster since they do not like the wet feeling. Also, since you will be washing and reusing them, you will not constantly have an out of pocket cost like you will with pull-ups. I do advice to still buy diapers for naps, nighttime, and running around. Potty pants can help your child feel more like their older siblings since they will now have their own underwear whereas pull-ups could still feel like a diaper to them, slowing down the training process.
Once you have your training pants, or pull-ups, and you feel your child is ready, then it's time to start. I have found the best method is to have them go to the potty chair every 10 - 15 minutes when first starting out. Make it a little celebration when they potty in the toilet, and when they have an accident walk them back to the potty chair and explain that is where they go, not their big kid underwear. The more they go in the potty chair and get praised, the more they will want to go. It only takes a few times of them going in the potty training pants to realize they don't like the wet feeling either. Work with them on being able to say potty and ask them several times in between visits if they need to go potty.
