How to Dunk a Basketball
This is a step by step guide showing people how to dunk a basketball.
Step 1: Get Motivated
Yeah! Play that heavy rock music or rap. It's basketball dunking time! I suggest Collective Soul's song called Better Now. It always gets you in a good mood, ready to show the world what you are made of (besides 95% water). Or maybe you like the theme from Monday Night football... That seems fun, no? All this fun required to dunk a basketball? Really?
Step 2: Maximize Height
Now, if you are but a young chap, drink your milk and eat your veggies. Stretch out everyday, although I certainly do not recommend hanging on a bar with weights tied to your legs. Dumb idea. Seriously. If you are older and have already reached full height, well, then, sorry, there's nothing you can do...
Besides getting new shoes of course! You can do this if you're younger, but make sure to get shoes with fatter heel sections so as to maximize height. Duh! Be ready to dunk a basketball.
Step 3: Work out those calves!
Now that you are taller and ready to rumble, time for some real work. Pump some feet iron, baby. Do calf raises, squats, and leg curls. Then some leg extensions and stretching. Here's a serious tip for any kind of weight training: don't settle for the same weight every time. You need to push yourself in a smart manner. Try doing a set number of reps at a certain weight level and if you can successfully complete them all, you move up five pounds during your next workout. Progression is key. If you cannot successfully do a full set, it is okay, you stay at that weight level. Do these leg exercises and before you know it, you will be able to dunk a basketball.
One note of caution regards plyometrics, that is, training without weights. There is a popular program called Air Alert that you might want to look at, but I have heard stories of people throwing out their knees. It's your choice. Depends on how much you want to dunk a basketball.
Anyways, the biggest step is hard work, so keep at it, and I hope you reach your goal of being able to dunk a basketball!
