Exercise Guide: Chest Using Only Dumbbells
A nicely defined chest is one of the sexiest body parts on a person. And considering this, I have compiled a list of some of the greatest chest workouts to give you a defined and pumped chest.
The first exercise is called Around The Worlds. Despite its fun name, this exercise is also very effective. What you will do is take two dumbbells and lay down on a weight bench. I have tries to do this while just laying on the ground, and you can do it, however, it isn't as effective. You will then put the dumbbells face up towards the ceiling on your upper thighs while you keep your elbows slightly bent. You will then move the dumbbells, not up and over, but around as if you were making a snow angel. You will want to bring them behind your head so that they touch each other and return to the original position.
The second exercise is called Bent-Arm Dumbbell Pullover. This exercise not only works on your chest, put also on your triceps, shoulders and lats. You will need a weight bench for this exercise. Lie down on the bench, with your head over the end and your feet flat on you floor. Lower the weights in a semicircular motion towards the floor. Go as low as you can without pain. Then make your way back up using the same path. Make sure that you keep your elbows in, this can also be done with you arms straight out.
The third exercise is the Decline Dumbbell Bench Press. This exercise also works out your triceps and shoulders, and is also a very good compound exercise. You will need to definitely have a weight bench for this movement. Move the bench in a decline position, and lie down with your head at the lowest position - your legs are higher than your head. Now, take your weight and perform the standard bench press motion. You may use a barbell, however, it is safer and more effective to use dumbbells. This exercise is perfect for your lower chest - it really localizes the weight and causes a great pump.
The fourth exercise is the Decline Dumbbell Flyes. This exercise uses the decline weight bench, as the previous exercise. Using the bench, hold the dumbbells together at arms' length above your shoulders, palms facing each other. Keep your arms as straight as possible with a slight bend in the elbow. You will then lower the dumbbells out to each side of your chest in a semicircular motion. Return the dumbbells to your chest using the same path. You MUST keep your head and back firmly on the bench and your feet firmly planted on the floor.
The fifth exercise is the Dumbbell Bench Press. What you will want to do is sit on the edge of a flat weight bench with dumbbells on your knees. In one smooth motion, roll onto your back while you bring the dumbbells up to a position slightly outside and above your shoulders. Your palms should face forwards. Bend your elbows at a 90 degree angle so that your upper arms are parallel to the ground. As you lift the weights, concentrate on keeping the weights balanced and under control. Then you must follow the same path downward until your arms are slightly below parallel to the floor. I have done this exercise with no weight bench, however, it is recommended that you do use a weight bench.
The sixth exercise is the Dumbbell Flyes. Now, what you will want to do is sit down flat on the bench with a dumbbell in each hand. The lie back, keeping the dumbbells close to your chest. List the dumbbells over your chest by extending your arms. Maintain a slight bend in your elbows. Now, keep your hips and shoulders flat on the bench and your feet on the floor. Lower the dumbbells to the sides of your body in an arc-like motion. At the lowest point, your bent elbows should be on a horizontal plane even with the bench. Slowly bring the weights back up over your chest in an arc. The bend in your elbows should stay the same throughout the exercise.
The seventh exercise is the Hammer Grip Incline Dumbbell Bench Press. Now, grab the dumbbell for each hand and lay on the bench with the your head, shoulders and butt firmly on the bench and your feet planted firmly on the floor. Now, pull your shoulder blades together to form a solid pressing surface. Use a hammer grip, which is your palms facing each other, and lower the weight evenly to the sides of the chest. What you will do now is take the weights in a straight line up to the starting position, make sure that you maintain a tight core throughout the entire exercise. This can also be done on a flat bench as well as on a decline bench.
And the last exercise is the Incline Dumbbell Flyes - With a Twist. This exercise is the same as the incline dumbbell flyes, however, on the way up twist your arms so that your pinky fingers face each other at the top of the movement. This workout is great for defining and separating your chest muscles. This is one of my favorite chest exercises because of the unique feel and the amazing pump that I get from it. You can also do this exercise flat on the floor.
