Why You Shouldn't Learn Martial Arts Online
Many people aspire to learn martial arts for their own reasons. There are many options to learn martial arts. Among them, learning online through videos. But why shouldn't you learn online?
When learning something like Taekwondo or Karate online, you are bound to cheat. You may not be disciplined enough to keep going back to your lessons every Saturday or so. You may feel tired or even lazy to open that video and train every week. Another reason why video training is not recommended is that it may lead to injury. That is the main reason why you need an instructor to be physically present with you. An instructor can correct you especially if you are a beginner and do not really know how much force to use when executing blocks or kicks. Performing even a basic punch can lead to serious injury if you get carried away and use too much force.
Another thing I do not like about online videos is that most online training programs are scams even though they claim to be giving you 24/7 online support. They are actually getting you to pay for membership knowing that ninety seven percent of people will quit after just a week or a month of training. They create a few basic online training sessions that are not properly constructed. Sometimes, the websites themselves just disappear after you pay them a few hundred dollars of your hard earned money and become untraceable. Even if the website doesn't disappear, you may not even be taught by a certified instructor. It may just be some inexperienced martial arts student just looking to make a quick buck.
If you really don't have a choice because there aren't any instructors in your area, then I wouldn't mind saying that online classes are an option worth considering. However, there are a few guidelines that you should follow to avoid getting ripped off:
Look for a certified martial arts website. It should be endorsed by the ruling organization of that particular form of martial arts. For instance, Taekwondo is governed by ITF or WTF. Next, the instructor should be a qualified black belt. If possible look for an instructor with many years of experience. The videos should be clear and concise. This will avoid any misunderstanding of the technique and will also avoid any injury. If possible, talk to someone who actually knows martial arts and ask them about their opinion of the website.
These are just a few tips about online learning. To learn more, contact your local martial arts governing body to find out about these websites and check for any other kind of options that are available for you. The bottom line however, is that you should try looking for a certified class in your area to ensure your safety and guarantee you're getting your money's worth.
